The NJ State Legislature is back in session and the Committee that A5804 is assigned to has scheduled a meeting for THIS MONDAY, December 6th at 2:00PM. Bill A5804 (Quijano), will modify certain definitions related to transient accommodation (vacation rentals) taxes and fees. This bill, if approved, will make the definitions in the law ambiguous again, which could result in some or all of our rentals being subject to the 11.625% tax again. We worked hard, with your support, back in 2019 to correct another bill, BY THE SAME ASSEMBLYWOMAN, that unintentionally captured our rentals to be taxed.
Don’t let her do it again!
While A5804 is not currently on the agenda for Monday, we know from past experience how they can slip things in at the last minute. We reached out to Assemblywoman Quijano’s office almost 2 months ago to offer some suggestions, however they are not cooperating with us.
Therefore, we need to get out in front of this bill, BEFORE MONDAY! Here is what YOU should do:
Contact the Committee Chairs:
Assemblyman Johnson
(Chair – Commerce & Economic Development)
Phone: 201-530-0469
Email: Asmjohnson@njleg.org
Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak
(Co-Chair – Commerce & Economic Development)
Phone: 732-548-1406
Email: Asmkarabinchak@njleg.org.
CALL AND EMAIL with a version of the following message:
Dear Assemblyman (Name from above),
As a shore rental owner I am opposed to A5804 (Quijano) “Modifies certain definitions related to transient accommodation taxes and fees.” which has been referred to your Committee. This bill modifies definitions that were corrected back in 2019 that imposed a “Shore Tax” on our State’s vacationers to the Jersey Shore. If these definitions are modified again, as proposed, it will again add ambiguity to the law which could result in the Shore tax coming back. Therefore, I am requesting that you DO NOT schedule or support A5804 for Monday’s meeting.
Thank you,
